Tips for Jumping Rope in Your House

Don't let the weather get in the way of breaking a sweat. Jumping rope is a great way to workout from the comfort of your own home. Here are our recommendations for how to get started:

Find the Right Space

First, find a space large enough for you to jump. We recommend about 10' front-to-back, 5' side-to-side, and a ceiling height that is about 3' taller than you are. You’re going to want to find a hard surface to jump on, whether that’s wood, concrete, or even thin carpet (if you invest in a mat - more on that in the next step).

You will probably find the most success in your garage, kitchen, or a wide hallway.

Protect Your Floor & Joints

Once you know where you’re going to jump, consider investing in an exercise mat. A good mat will protect your floor from scuffs and scratches, muffle the sound of the rope hitting the floor, and reduce the chance of upper and lower body injuries. If you already have an exercise mat of some sort, try it out with your jump rope, but if you’re looking to invest, we recommend a Jump Rope Mat.

Pick a Soft Rope

Finally, a softer rope will keep your floor, furniture, and family intact. If you aren’t already, try out a licorice PVC rope. They are gentler on your floor and surroundings while still providing the same great jump experience of a standard beaded rope - a win win!
